Bell Bottom Baby

Bunny had really never worn blue jeans other than maybe once or twice. I don't really like young children to wear constricting or uncomfortable clothes. I feel like there are enough uncomfortable things in their little lives, such as teething and various bumps and bruises, that can occur as a child learns what they can and can't do by themselves. But when my sister, Meagan, got some hand-me-downs from a friend and let me look through them, since Bunny is bigger than her own daughter, Birdy, there were a few pairs of very worn and comfy feeling jeans that were calling my craft loving name.

The jeans fit quite well in the waist, but were far too long for Bunny to wear. So I found myself with two options. One, I could hem the jeans to fit. Or two, I could cut them short and add a little flair to the bottom. Needless to say, I went with option two.

I had a fat quarter that I was longing to use,
so I cut two pieces about twice as wide as the circumference of the leg of the jeans and six inches tall.

I gather stitched them and sewed them to the bottoms of the jeans that had been cut 5 inches shorter than what Bunny would wear. I stitched up the sides and hemmed up the bottoms, and ended up with an awesome little pair of bell bottom jeans.

They look awesome on my bell bottom baby.

  4. What a cute idea. I keep meaning to do this to some of the skirts my girls have (we don't wear pants either.) It would be a great way to extend the length of a skirt and be cute too! Thanks for visiting my blog!

  6. Hannah, that is such a cute idea! From age 2 on, my daughter would not wear pants. Then, once she became of two-wheeler riding age, I told her pants would really make her life easier. She pouted a bit, so I made her jeans with ruffles on them...well, the ruffles made all the difference to her and she loves them! I'll post a picture soon...

Thank you for stopping by and inviting me here...thank you for sharing your darling idea. And I'm trying not to envy your gorgeous windows and flooring!

  9. I'm so glad you went with "add flair" (and flare, LOL) instead of just hemming. I love the fabric, and the pants are too too cute. :)

  10. You did a lovely job with those jeans, thats exactly why I didn't put them on my daughter when she was younger, they seemed a bit too uncormfortable.

My eight-year old daughters still prefers cotton pants over jeans.

  11. That is a really cute idea- ruffled jeans :)
This might work when they grow too tall for a pair that still fit at the waist ;)
