Crafting Along With needle and thREAD

Last month, for Independence Day, I made Bunny a red, white, and blue pillowcase dress.

It had a nautical theme.

The day before we left for the beach, I realized it would make a cute addition to the "beach clothes"
and that Squirrely needed a matching one, as well.
So I made one!

I love making girls matching dresses!

Wonderfull (Full of Wonder) Wednesday

If we seem a little absent here in this place, it is because we are!  We kicked off the summer with a short trip to the beach and are finishing up summer with our week long, family beach vacation!  It has been a wonderful, wonder filled week!

Looking for the wonder in everyday life!
I'd love for you to join me on this journey.
If you find wonder along the way, please leave a link in the comments,
so others can share in your wonder!

If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder without any such gift from the fairies, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in” ~ Rachel Carson

*Due to an apparent blogger hiccup, even though I set this to publish Wednesday.. it published Tuesday, with Wednesday's date haha

She Takes My Breath Away

Her pure, sweet beauty. Inside and out.
I inhale it deeply and it soaks into every part of me.
 I am so very blessed!

An Enchanted Childhood Playschool ~ Last Week of Summer Break

This was our last week of Summer Break. Which does not really mean a break at all. It means we add a few children... in most cases, siblings to ones here OR past playschool children who have come back to spend  the summer with us.  Now that school is starting up, we will lose several children.  While the summer is crazy busy for us, we are always sad when children leave us to go to school elsewhere.  The children seemed to feel it too. They seemed to not only savor our outside hikes, wading, picnics and such. But they seemed to savor the time spent with one another a little more.

Garden time was appreciated more with the knowing that several would not be enjoying the gifts it offers again until next summer.

Lots of successful hill and cave climbing occured this week,
with some children finally making it to the top!

And on the last day, the older children, the ones leaving us to go on to school, asked to walk around the big field and climb the farm gate, one last time.

There was lots of child initiated handholding....
by children who normally run off with the gang.

We pray they will forever carry a part of our little playschool in their hearts and souls.
We know we will forever love the time we spent with them.

"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, water bugs, tadpoles, frogs, mud turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, chestnuts, trees to climb. Brooks to wade, water lilies, woodchucks, bats, bees, butterflies, various animals to pet, hayfields, pine-cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets; and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of education." --Luther Burbank

When the call rang out that we were going to take a walk up "Bear Cave Path", Bunny dashed back into Nana's house, grabbed up a bear,  and proceeded to take him along.  Normally (as in never) we do not take stuffed animals outside... but who could argue with such logic. and love.  In the last picture, she had just showed Bear the.... "bear cave"!

Crafting Along With needle and thREAD

We haven't been reading much this week. Instead, we have been singing. Bunny is quite the lover of music these days. She memorizes songs as fast as I can sing them. Our current favorite is Do Re Mi from The Sound of Music. We watched this movie clip on youtube the other day and I was reminded of my love of matching outfits.

When that song was over, we watched another Sound of Music classic, My Favorite Things.

Notice the curtains?

Same as the outfits!

I had forgotten, in the years since I have seen the movie, that Maria did indeed upcycle!

Inspired, I whipped up matching outfits for my girls.

Wanna guess what I made them out of?
 Yup! Curtains!

They look pretty sweet on my favorite things (aka: Bunny and Squirrel)!

Bunny is pleased that her new dress is pink.
Pink is her favorite color, despite my attempt to interest her in other colors.

Squirrely, by the way, is 6 weeks old now.

She is getting big and strong and now weighs 10lbs 8oz.

She adores her papa!
