Today was that rainy day!
While the children took turns mixing, we sang songs to keep everyone happy!
The singing continued as we cooked the mixture for a few minutes.
The scent filled the air.. this time we used Rosemary essential oil.
We have used peppermint and lavender oils, as well as cinnamon and pumpkin pie spices in the past.
We passed out balls of playdough while they are still warm.
The children become so quiet as the knead their warm, frangrant playdough.
After a few minutes, we handed out the playdough toys..
golf tees, child butter knives, little animals, rolling pins.
Look what caught our eye, out the window, while playing?
Apparently a rainy day is a good day for turkeys to forage next to the house!
One of my very 1st blog posts was about playdough.. with a little two year old girl.. who is now four and still enjoying playdough time!
Here is my mama's tried and true recipe... the same one she used when we were little! It keeps for a long time (months) in a closed container or zip lock baggie. We have made it several ways: food coloring and essential oils, kool aid for both the color and scent, mostly organic ingredients (like today). But the recipe remains the same and it a winner every time. I plan to make some with eucalyptus oil next time bad colds come our way! Oh and I double this recipe.
1 cup flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tbsp. oil
Mix dry ingredients; add wet. Add in scents and colorings of your choice.
Cook low until ball forms. Knead until cool. Add flour if sticky.

I'll be trying this with my own kiddos! The baby likes to eat play-doh, so this is perfect.
ReplyDeleteYour playschool looks like so much fun! I think the next rainy day we have here I'll pull out the playdough for my 7.5 and almost 10 year old. They still love it!

ReplyDeleteDo you use natural coloring now or food coloring? Just wondering because I have no idea what to use as natural coloring without risking staining the kids. LOL!
