Daydream

This morning, we overslept. Being up until midnight with a fussy baby makes it a little hard to get up and get ready for church on a Sunday morning. At 8:17am we finally rolled out of bed. At 8:45 we left for church. In that time, I washed and fixed my hair, got dressed, brushed my teeth, put on deodorant, fed Bunny, changed her diaper, got her dressed, fixed her hair, put on make-up, packed the diaper bag, chugged a cup of orange juice, and put on shoes. The Hubs got him self ready, kept Bunny for me to get ready, fixed her car seat in the car, and buckled her in. We pulled out of the driveway smiling, and chatted all the way to church.

Despite today's late start, it turned out to be a great day. We went to church as planned. And to Lowe's afterward, to pick up a few things we need to make tree blocks. Then home for Bunny's nap, and to clean up the house. I did so while The Hubs took care of some yard work. Bunny napped longer than expected (a good thing since she was up late last night), and I got a lot done while she did.

When she finally did wake, I went back and laid with her in bed for a bit. We nursed and talked and snuggled as she got fully awake. This is one of the best things about being a mama. It makes my heart smile.

When we did get up from nap, we went outside to check in with The Hubs. He was getting ready to walk up the road and look for some tree block wood. Bunny and I tagged along. While he was hacking away at a sapling, Bunny and I sat down to take a break. She discovered her first mud puddle and loved it!

On the walk back, I decided to take her down to Pebble Beach to see the creek. I sat her on the cool pebbles and she dipped her toes in the luke warm water. She sat there in amazement at the fact that she was allowed to do so. She looked up at me and smiled. Slowly reaching into the water, she picked up a smooth rock and popped it straight into her mouth. The rock was quite large and too big to swallow, so I let let explore it with her taste buds. After a moment, she took it out of her mouth and handed it to me. Then she put another one in. This game went on for quite a while. The Hubs came down to see us, and he took a turn being handed rocks. I took some pics of the event, and marveled at this dream coming true right before my eyes. To many people this was just a little girl playing in a creek, but to me it was memories of the past and hope for the future all wrapped up into one big package.

I myself was/am a major tomboy. Growing up, I used to wish that I was a boy (I mean really, they can pee on trees). My big brother was my best friend. I spent every waking moment following him around doing whatever he did. As soon as I was old enough to walk along holding his hand, he had me in the creek. We were lucky enough to have a creek at each place we moved, throughout my whole childhood. There were only two things that were always the same at every new home. We were together, and in a creek.

In the past few years, I have been able to experience the love of creeks yet again through doing daycare. But I have been waiting for this time to come. When another curly haired tomboy girl would fill my shoes (or creek boots) and love to play in a creek. It is a dream come true. I know it may seem silly, but I don't care. I am a dreamer, and this is my dream. It may be simple, but that is the beauty in it.

After making some Beech Tree Blocks, we ended the day as we always do. Together. Snack, bath, Goodnight Moon, Bible, nursing, and bed. We slept in a big heap. All tangled up in each other's arms. Sweet, deep sleep. An amazing ending to an amazing day.

  1. I love sleeping babies. They are so cute and tomgirls are the best. Boys are kinda whinny!
