We had a wonderful week off! It was good, though, to see our little chidren back at playschool. This week we learned about owls and the term "nocturnal"... which is very awesome to hear a two year old say!
Our first book of the week was Little Owl's Night.
After reading it the first day, we made toilet paper tube owl puppets (I had seen this idea on Pinterest).
The next day, after reading the same story, we made little shape owls...
an oval for the face, circles for the eyes, and a diamond for the beak.
We like to give the children plenty of time to express themselves with art... So after reading The Barn Owls, the children were given card stock and crayons and asked to draw an owl habitat. We talked about the various places owls live, to help get them started. After they were down, each child got an owl sticker to place in the habitat!
We finished up the week by reading Good Night Owl and painting these wooden masks we got from JoAnne's!
On cold days, we make sure the children are moving those large muscles. We head to the living room... nicnamed "The Wild and Crazy Room"... for some wild and crazy fun!
And of course playdough is always a fun activity...
especially when you add in something new to experiment with!
I want to let you know that the books we read each week will be featured on the Amazon widget in the sidebar on your right. If you purchase a book through this link, I hopefully (not so far, but maybe someday) will make a few cents!

What fun and perfect timing! My daughter went to an owl themed Birthday party today so I have been thinking about owls! We made her an owl card and I painted an owl on a smooth stone.

ReplyDeleteSuper cute!
ReplyDeleteLoved this post - as owls are favourites of mine! Don't forget Wol, the wise owl featured in the Christopher Robin stories, by A.A.Milne. Being from the UK, kids used to be bought up on these (before Disney got hold of them, but they're still good!). Enjoyed reading this post immensely.
