An Enchanted Childhood Playschool ~ October 1st-5th

This week we read Eric Carle's Does a Kangaroo Have a Mother, Too?  The children LOVED this book!!  We used these cute flash cards, Mudpuppy Mothers And Babies Flash Cards Multi, to learn the names of the animal babies in the book, as well as others.

We were not at all creative in crafts for this book... and I found that neither was Pinterest nor my other usual sources.  But we did a little bit of coloring and a little painting and then spent hours outside in the gorgeous fall sun.  As it should be!

We put these kangaroos on large craft sticks to make puppets, but forgot to take a picture.

Friday found us with just two two-year-olds and a one-year-old.
While he napped, the older ones tried out our new bean bags...

The heart and soul of our playschool is lots and lots of outside play and adventure.
Soon the weather will get colder and colder until our outside time will be limited,
so we intend to enjoy it as long and as much as possible!

{this moment} - A Friday ritual inspired by SouleMama. A photo capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you're

One of those perfect fall days!

Crafting Along With needle and thREAD

The NO sewing, NO book reading kind of Crafting Along With needle and thREAD...
(we all have these weeks, right?)

On our latest trip to the fabric store, I let Bunny pick out some fabric in hopes that she will actually want to wear something I make for her.

I honestly expected to walk out of the store with nothing but pink, pink, and more pink.
Surprisingly, Bunny's choices were very much to my taste...

Well, except for the sparkly blue...

Any ideas of what I should make with that?

As for the reading.  lots and lots and lots of children's books.

And lots and lots of blogs. on birth. motherhood. breasteeding. positive parenting. crafts of all sorts. simple living.  Oh and Pinterest.  And these two blogs... of my "blog partners"...

Wonderfull (Full of Wonder) Wednesday

Looking for the wonder in everyday life!
I'd love for you to join me on this journey.
If you find wonder along the way, please leave a link in the comments,
so others can share in your wonder!

What a wonder.. a big, red, ripe tomato, hidden in the jungle of weeds and vines, in October!

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit;
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

This quote always makes me laugh. No worries with Bunny though...
she just eats them straight off the vine. like an apple. yum.

The First Day Of Fall

In celebration of the first day of fall, our little family went on a "date" (as Bunny says).
We paid a visit to The Game Farm--an awesome place to get a little unschooling in.

When we first arrived, we just walked around the picnic area and let
Bunny stretch her legs after being in the car for an hour.

Please excuse the car seat hair.

I love how she goes from "Hold my hand."...

To "I do it myself!"
She rocks!

This is the only picture I took of Baby Squirrely, because she fell asleep right after this,
and slept the rest of the time we were there.

We saw elk and geese.

A cool leafy bug (not one of the animal attractions) landed on Papa's hand.

Then we made our way around the huge loop that surrounds the animals.

Getting a better look at the river otters.

Fish!

Bunny was strangely impressed with the deer.
We see deer almost every day around our house,
but I guess she enjoyed getting an up -close look at them.

A Bald Eagle... bald like Baby Squirrely, we joked.

Black Bears.

When I was a child, we moved around a few times with my dad's job.We lived on a farm in Pennsylvania
for about five years, before moving back to WV to be closer to family. During that time, we saw black bears every summer. I haven't seen one since we moved here nine years ago.
...
However, look what The Hubs caught on his game camera a few days ago.

This was in the field just above Mama's house.
...
Ok, back to the Game Farm.

I <3 this tree stump!

By the time we were all done looking at the animals, the cool morning had turned into very warm afternoon. We stopped at the gift shop, where an over heated Bunny got a snow cone, and I picked out a t-shirt for her to wear instead of her hot, long sleeve shirt. The t-shirt happened to be made from organic cotton.

That makes up for the snow cone, right?

She likes the mama and two baby deer. She says, "Dat Mama, and me, and Squirrrely!"

What a great way to celebrate the first day of fall!
